Allen Cohen became president in 2007, confirming a tradition of excellence that began in 1930 with his grandfather, Russian immigrant blacksmith, Max Cohen. Under Allen’s leadership, M. Cohen and Sons has grown from a 10 person production team in a 12,000-square-foot building to over 200 people designing and fabricating world-class ironworks in a 130,000-square-foot facility.
As a third generation member of the company, Allen has acquired vast experiential knowledge that has been essential to the company’s success. Allen’s father and former company president, Phillip Cohen, exposed Allen to the fundamentals of the industry in his early teens. From that time, Allen has worked his way up through various levels of the company, personally experiencing the realities of ironwork from every perspective in the industry. By the age of eighteen, Allen was working full time while studying business and psychology at St. Joseph’s University. His academic studies and his hands-on experience in the business have provided him with the necessary tools to lead the company through an ever-changing marketplace with constantly increasing complexities in design and specifications.
Today, M. Cohen and Sons welcomes a diverse roster of clients to a company with the capabilities and culture to successfully execute commissions in metal, wood, and glass all over the world.
Brian Cohen is fourth generation member of the Cohen family. Starting in his early childhood, Brian learned the intricacies of metal fabrication from his grandfather, Philip, and his father, Allen. Brian immersed himself in the business at a young age, spending much of his free time shadowing his father and picking up on the minutia of business operations. In high school, Brian participated in a vocational program that allowed him to earn course credits while working at the company. Brian continued his education at the University of Arts in Philadelphia. He graduated in 2000, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and invaluable formal training in metal craftsmanship. Like his father, he maintained full-time employment while pursuing his academic interests.
Brian has developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship through his experience in all aspect of the trade. From AutoCAD and detailing to fabrication, painting and installation his knowledge and expertise have helped him earn the title of Senior Vice President in charge of manufacturing and operations.
